So What is Grief?
When something familiar ends or changes (regardless of its benefit), we experience and emotional response. This is GRIEF.
Grief is normal and natural. But if we dismiss it and leave it unchecked, it becomes Unresolved (Maladaptive, Prolonged) Grief which can bring incredible chaos and disruption to our health, relationships and finances. The sad truth is we allow society to condition us to intellectualize, rationalize or spiritualize our painful emotions in order to survive and fit in...and we end up stuck. Yet, grief is not intellectual. Emotional pain is a human experience we all share. Your heart may be broken.
To further complicate things, the majority of us tend to relate grief only to death (bereavement), so if we haven't experienced a death in our life, it is rare people will self-qualify themselves as "a griever". Yet, research shows that in our lifetime we can face 42+ grieving experiences (as shown on the image below) that can adversely impact our life (Social Readjustment Rating Scale, Holmes TH, Rahe RH, 1967). And this does not include all the loss and changes that COVID brought into our lives. COVID left everyone in uncharted territory with Behavioral/Mental Health at center stage.
Lastly, people may also be too quick to dismiss grief and blame it on burnout, being overwhelmed, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, mental illness and more. While grief is normal and natural, unresolved grief can lead to genuine mood disorders. This is where IOIH comes in.

Where Science and Lived Experience Meet™
The program helped me navigate through feelings I was experiencing and helped me uncover feelings I was not considering or recognizing. Could not have processed so much in 8 weeks without the program facilitator's guidance. Helped me see that the cloud of sadness would not be a forever thing if I worked through my thoughts and pain in the way the program guided me. Thankful that such a program is available."~
